Upskilling workers enhances their competencies and knowledge through targeted training programs, fostering professional growth and adapting to evolving job demands.
Mhondoro continues to play an important role in creating jobs; sourcing manpower from the immediate community; and upskilling workers to levels where they are not only employable, but those with entrepreneurial spirit are empowered to start their own businesses, or work in partnership with Mhondoro.
Unemployment remains a crisis in South Africa, where more than 32% of the population do not have jobs. Outside of the cities and in the countryside and farming communities, the percentage of unemployment is even higher due to limited economic activity in those areas. Unemployment is compounded by the literacy crisis where students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds find it challenging to gain access to higher education due to poor schooling, and many being unable to meet the minimum requirements for admissions, as well as a lack of funding for world-class education.
Mhondoro employs 42 people on a permanent basis and is currently investing in new infrastructure as part of one of its community upliftment initiatives. Community based builders have been contracted and 33 people from the local community are on site at the new Farmhouse project, building and learning new skills during the construction of a new industrial kitchen and staff lodging.
